Job Description

Vodacom is currently looking for a qualified and experienced Product Owner: Value Added Services to join our dynamic team.

Role Purpose:

The purpose of the Product Owner is to develop a portfolio of VAS products that include Prepaid Electricity, Bill Payments & the National Lottery in line with the strategic objectives of Vodacom Payment Services that will be distributed across all internal and external distribution channels.

Key responsibilities:

  • To clear articulation of the product roadmap that is continually refined and updated and drives the uptake of Vodacom of all Value Added Services
  • To oversee all aspects of commercial negotiations between VFS, the various suppliers of VAS as well as the merchants to which it supplies the services
  • To develop all use cases, relevant documentation, providing inputs and evaluation for financial business cases, defining business rules and working with customer experience teams to define and refine customer journeys.
  • Product level income statement ownership for all line items, fixed and variable cost and revenue line items
  • To provide detailed input into the correct level of operational capability required to support product commercialization
  • To provide insights to the broader team around innovations and developments within the Point of Sale and Fintech industry in general, keeping track of competitor developments
  • On-going innovation and product development based on consumer and market trends as well as historical data
  • To collaborate with portfolio managers across the Vodacom Payments team ensuring the product proposition complements the broader Vodacom Financial Services merchant proposition and leverages the core Vodacom telecom offering

Key competencies and knowledge:

  • Must have excellent problem solving skills, with the ability to minimize overhead tasks for the team and manage interdependences with other teams
  • Must have excellent relationship building and influencing skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive team culture
  • Must have excellent business acumen and understanding of the role of the capability in contributing to business value
  • Must have in-depth understanding of both the current Telecommunications and digital service market and emerging business and technology trends
  • Must have strong customer-centric focus, with an entrepreneurial and ROL mindset with ability to function with a high degree of autonomy
  • Must have strong financial management skills and acumen
  • Must have strong time-management skills, with the ability to juggle multiple balls, and comfortable working under pressure
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communications and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with the delivery team to deliver user stories
  • Must be flexible with planning and work estimation, managing and empowering the team (without needing to micromanage), able to continuously balance between the customer and commercial needs
  • Digital/software product ownership in large scale environments
  • User story definition and refinement
  • Must be expertise in Agile software development environment and methods
  • Market research, design thinking, and lean start-up methods; business modeling
  • Customer experience design of digital products and services
  • Analytics / AB / multivariate testing and related tools
  • Must have data-driven decision making skills.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must have Matric / Grade 12
  • Must have Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, or other related field essential
  • Must have 8 or more years experience of which at least 5 or more years are in the successful delivery in Value Added Services Product Ownership (or equivalent role) across full product lifecycles, from MVP to marketable products in iterations, including support transition essential
  • Must have experience in successfully leading and mentoring agile / DevOps teams in large multi-team environments essential.
  • Must have experience in the use of analytics and AB / multivariate testing essential
  • Must have experience with requirements definition and use case modeling essential
  • Must have professional experience and knowledge of the Telecommunications industry strongly preferred
  • Payments Acquiring (Traditional and Non Traditional payments)
  • Merchant commercials and contracts
