Job Description        

We have an exciting and new opportunity for an experienced Trend & Design Specialist to successfully research and interpret trends and design Pre-Boys Outerwear merchandise in accordance with Ackermans Pre-Boys wear customer requirements.


  • Must have relevant Degree (e.g. Fashion Design) or Diploma

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

  • Must have good strategic, conceptual skills and a solid knowledge of South African retail landscape
  • Must have knowledge of the retail merchandise cycle with regards to buying
  • Must have QA knowledge
  • Must have fabric knowledge
  • Must have proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Must have strong eye for fashion and detail with the ability to predict, analyze & monetize future retail and fashion trends for local customer.
  • Must have ability to research and provide mood, colour, print and silhouette direction, drawing from many sources of influence including runway, street, retail, culture, art, social media and trend services.
  • Must have knowledge on how to stay abreast of emerging macro trends, micro trends and cultural phenomenon and consistently communicate these trends to all levels, both within as well as outside the Company
  • Must have excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills
  • Must have strong relationship building and influencing skills
  • Must have excellent time management, organizational and administrative skills and presentation skills
  • Must have high energy level, performance-driven and deadline-orientated
  • Must have ability to remain flexible, function under pressure and maintain a positive attitude and work performance in a variety of circumstances
  • Must have ability to multi-task and to deal with complexities, use initiative to solve problems
  • Must have ability to work independently, as well as be a team player, strong interpersonal skills
  • Creative with an eye for detail, analytical and systematic, passionate about fashion


  • Must have minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in clothing design: with proven experience in Apparel (Pre-Boys fashion)

Key Responsibilities 

  • To design ranges that support the merchandise strategy for the relevant portfolios
  • To interpret trends into commercial designs
  • To ensure all designs are in line with the brand positioning
  • To produce clear tech packs for suppliers, Product Technology and Buyers to work with
  • To collaborate with Sourcing to develop designs into samples
  • To execute in accordance with the merchandise seasonal plan
