Job Purpose

The main purpose of this job position is to oversee the portfolios/functions delegated by the Dean, Management of the Faculty as a member of the Faculty Executive, innovative strategic planning and leadership, ensure that the Faculty strategic goals are realized in line with the institutional strategic goals and to take overall responsibility for the Dean.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Must have a relevant Doctoral degree
  • Must have a relevant teaching qualification
  • Must have at least ten (10) years’ higher education experience with at least 5 years’ relevant experience at a senior level
  • Must have a demonstrable track record of leadership and mentorship
  • Must have evidence of involvement in faculty and institutional committees (i.e. Teaching and Learning; Curriculum officer committee; WIL committee; Language; Quality Assurance, etc.)
  • Must have experience in supervising post graduate students
  • Must have knowledge of the academic offerings in the faculty
  • Knowledge of institutional policies relevant to the key performance areas
  • Must have thorough understanding of the higher education landscape
  • Must have knowledge of regional and national government policy relating to schooling and education

  • To manage and coordinate Funza Lushaka and other bursary processes in the faculty
  • To facilitate, manage and maintain sound internal staff and student relations as well as their development
  • Share responsibility for the management of the faculty
  • Mentoring and coaching HODs
  • To manage and oversee campus Issues. Liaise with service departments, e.g. Student Health, Infrastructure and Security, Physical Space, etc.
  • To conduct and promote research

  • Liaison with the Wellington SRC
  • Management and staff meetings
  • As senior academic on the Wellington campus, the incumbent will oversee academic matters of three faculties on the Wellington campus reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor
  • To liaise with the community structures in Wellington
  • To perform other functions as may be assigned by the Dean
